What Can USB System Do
USB system manages the data transmission between host and USB devices through a host controller. Meanwhile, USB system is also responsible for managing the USB resources, such as bandwidth and bus energy. This enables customers to access USB successfully.
Structure of USB System
USB system adopts the cascaded star topology, which consists of three basic components: host, Hub and function equipment. Host, also known as the root, root knot or root Hub, is installed into a computer by mounting on the motherboard or using as an adapter card. Containing host controller and root hub, the host controls the flow of control information and data on the USB bus.
Hub is a specific component of USB structure; it provides the point named port and makes the device connected to the USB bus. Meanwhile, it detects all devices connected to the bus and provides power management for them. What’s more, it is responsible for the fault detection and recovery of bus.
The function equipment is connected to bus through port, and USB can also be used as hub.
